What WordPress Theme Is That?

question_mark_personYou would think that selecting a WordPress theme for your blog would be fairly easy. After all, there are so many styles to choose from and there are so many that are absolutely free. It should be an easy decision – right? Well if you’re like me, it’s wasn’t.

You see for me, when I see a theme on another blogger’s site that I think is pretty cool, it starts distracting me like a nasty shiny object and I just have to find out what it is. Sometimes you can scroll to the bottom of the page and the theme name and creator is listed right there – easy enough. Other times it’s nowhere to be found, so what do you do then?

You use a handy free online tool called “What WordPress Theme Is That?”

This site is fabulous. You simply type in a domain name and the tool will search the site bringing back the name of the theme (both parent and child theme) and the plugins that the site uses. Naturally it can’t come back with the name of a uniquely created theme. But I love that I get the name of the theme and the plugins too.

This is the tool I used to find the theme I use on this blog. I liked the theme on another site I visited, entered in the domain name, and I found the Genesis theme, actually the Mocha child theme created by Studio Press.

This is why I love this theme –

  • SEO optimized
  • Four default colors
  • One, two, or three column options
  • Left and right sidebar options
  • Fixed or full width options
  • Massively widget ready
  • Custom backgrounds, headers, and menu
  • Responsive – so that it’s mobile ready
  • Allows for threaded messages so you can build a conversation with your readers

Studio Press also has a vast library of additional themes that are all HTML 5 compatible, adaptable to a number of niche topics, and supported by Copyblogger. Looking for simple and streamline – they have that.
Metro, Modern, or Retro – they have that too.

Based on statistics from “What WordPress Theme Is That? – Studio Press is the most popular theme creator on their top ten list.

  1. I learned about this website through Tiffany’s blog and I am constantly going over there to see what theme people are using. 🙂

    It’s a wonderful tool!

  2. Very cool site! I tried it on my own website and sure enough it found the theme. Didn’t do so well with plugins, but the theme is what matters. I’m definitely bookmarketing this, I’m always coming across sites I wish I knew what theme they were using.
