What Do You Mean It’s Broken?

broken-softwareOr How to Slow Down Your Day

Man, don’t you just hate it when a time saving product you purchased breaks down and costs you an hour to fix! I sure do and that’s what happened to me yesterday.

There I was ready to go, I had done my research, knew the product I wanted to promote for my next Squidoo lens, clicked on the time saving application to get started and nothing. Truly nothing! The application would not open. What the !@#!#?

Thinking the way I do, I thought geez if this thing is broken it is long past the refund time and I really don’t want to go through that hassle. But I really like this program; it had been working great and did save me tons of time. So I went back through my emails and found the original download message hoping that I could reenact the download and problem solved. I could get on with my day.

Well, I get to their WSO download site and low and behold there is a new version available due to quirky Java incompatibilities. Hmm, do you think maybe they could have sent their customers an email notice or something?

Well anyway, I verified that I had the most current version of Java, clicked to download, all looks good, zip folder saved to my hard drive, clicked the application to start and nothing. Starts to open and poof it is gone. Really? You must be kidding me, this is the fix? I tried again, and then again, I mean what had I to lose and by golly third times a charm, the application opened!

Set up all my registration info again and ready to go to work. But first I need to get my concentration back, time to get up and take a little walk to shake off this frustration. Played with the dog and settled back in. Trust me this Squidoo lens is not a deep philosophical post but I still needed to be focused on the task at hand. If you would like to check out my Squidoo lens, you can do so here.

Thanks for listening to my rant, I feel so much better now. A little catharsis never hurt anyone.

BTW – how about lending a comment to this post for the Tiffany Dow Freaking Fantastic Blog and List Building Challenge as my next post will hopefully involve your input.

Thanks so much!

  1. Hi Marilyn,

Wouldn’t it be great if all you had to do was write posts, answer emails, etc. without all the techy stuff to deal with.

I feel like like I spend more time figuring out how to do things, than I do actually doing what I need to do.

Playing with my dogs helps me too.

    Thanks, Marilyn. – Steve

  2. I’m so glad I’m not the only one this happens to. At present my ‘software’ is Firefox as it keeps crashing on me. I tried Chrome and that just froze. Sigh … who said life wasn’t meant to be easy??

      Hi Kathy,

I have had the same experience with Chrome, I’m not much of a fan. I begrudgingly use IE for most work and Firefox for Squidoo and SEO type work and research.

It’s all part of the journey isn’t it. Funny thing is each time I struggle with something I come away wiser. Imagine that!

    Thanks for the visit!

  4. LOL — I had the same problem so even know the tool you mean. I love that tool — saves a ton of time if you don’t count the 1/2 day I spend fussing about why it did not work.

  5. Been there done that MANY times 🙂
